Questions
Can a veteran go to a non-VA emergency room?
If you think your life or health is in danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. If you get emergency care at a non-VA hospital, VA must get notified within 72 hours of when your emergency care starts.
Why isn't my VA clinic listed?
This list comes from Medicare (CMS) hospital data, which includes VA medical centers but not most VA community clinics, and not every VA medical center reports to CMS. VA runs many more sites than are listed here.
How do I apply for VA health care?
Call VA's health care application line at 877-222-8387, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET, or apply on VA.gov. The line handles applications, not medical questions.
Why is the closest VA hospital so far away?
There are far fewer VA medical centers than community hospitals, so this page looks up to 400 miles away. In an emergency, don't drive to a distant VA hospital: call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
