Terms & Conditions

The rules for using this site and its data, in plain English.

Effective October 19, 2026Last updated October 19, 2026

In an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Nothing on this site is medical advice, and the emergency department wait times shown here are yearly medians, not live wait times.

1. Agreement

HospitalsInEachState.com (“the site,” “we,” “us”) is an independent hospital directory. By using the site you agree to these Terms & Conditions and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.

2. Not medical advice

The site provides general information about hospitals for research and comparison. It is not medical advice and is not a substitute for advice from a doctor or other qualified health professional. Don’t delay or skip care, or choose a hospital in an emergency, based on anything you read here. Hospital ratings, wait times, prices and other figures describe past performance and may not reflect the care you would receive.

3. The data and its accuracy

Most figures on the site come from public sources such as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the U.S. Census Bureau, as described on About the data. We update the data regularly, but sources publish on their own schedules, hospitals open, close, merge and change their details, and errors can occur in the source data or in how we match it. Always confirm important details, such as whether a hospital has an emergency department, its address and its phone number, directly with the hospital.

The site is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by CMS, any government agency, or any hospital or health system listed. Hospital names and logos belong to their owners and are used only to identify them.

If you find a mistake, please tell us and we will check it against the source.

4. Using our content and data

The underlying federal data is in the public domain. The site’s compilation of that data, its rankings and analysis, its writing, design and code belong to us and are protected by copyright and other laws.

  • You may use the figures, charts and CSV downloads for personal, research, journalistic, educational and commercial purposes, as long as you credit HospitalsInEachState.com and link to the page you used.
  • You may quote short passages of our text with a link back to the source page.
  • You may not copy or republish substantial parts of the site, or its pages in bulk, as your own directory or website.
  • You may not imply that we, or any hospital listed, endorse you or your product.

5. Acceptable use

When you use the site, you agree not to:

  • Scrape, crawl or download the site with automated tools in a way that puts a heavy load on it, gets around rate limits or security measures, or ignores our robots.txt file. Use the CSV downloads instead.
  • Click on ads you aren’t interested in, or encourage or use automated means to generate ad impressions or clicks.
  • Try to gain unauthorized access to the site, its servers or its database, or interfere with how it works.
  • Submit spam, false reports, or anything unlawful, abusive or infringing through our forms.
  • Sign up someone else for email alerts without their permission.

We may block access to anyone who breaks these rules.

6. What you send us

When you send a correction, comment or other message, you confirm that it is accurate to the best of your knowledge and that you have the right to share it. You give us permission to use it to review and improve the site, including by updating our data. We won’t publish your name or email address. Please don’t send personal health information.

7. Email alerts

Hospital alerts are free and optional. They start only after you confirm your email address, and you can unsubscribe at any time with the link in every email. We may change, pause or stop alerts at any time.

8. Ads, links and third parties

The site is supported by advertising, including ads from Google. Ads, sponsored links and job listings are provided by third parties. We don’t endorse the advertisers, employers or products shown, and we are not responsible for them. Links to other websites, including hospital websites, are provided for convenience. We don’t control those websites and are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.

9. Disclaimers

The site and all of its content and data are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, timeliness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, secure or free of errors.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Hospitals In Each State and its owners, employees and contractors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any decision made or action taken in reliance on the site, arising from your use of the site or its data. Our total liability for any claim relating to the site is limited to one hundred U.S. dollars ($100).

Some jurisdictions don’t allow some of these limits, so they may not apply to you. You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your misuse of the site or your violation of these terms.

11. General

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our not enforcing a part of these terms is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later. These terms are the entire agreement between you and us about the site.

12. Changes and contact

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms. Questions? Use our contact form.
