The 100 largest hospitals in the U.S.
Ranked by beds reported on each hospital's latest Medicare cost report (fiscal years ending 2023 to 2025). Largest doesn't mean best: see each hospital's page for its ratings. Campuses that file one cost report under a single Medicare provider number (CCN) are counted together, so a multi-campus hospital can rank as one.
Rank is the national rank. Hospitals with no bed count on a Medicare cost report aren't ranked. Correctional hospitals are left out.

Questions about the largest hospitals
What is the largest hospital in the U.S.?
By beds reported on its latest Medicare cost report, AdventHealth Orlando in Orlando, FL, with 2,863 beds (Medicare cost report FY2024). A hospital that files one cost report for several campuses is counted as one, and rankings by licensed beds or by health system can differ.
How many hospitals are in the U.S.?
HospitalsInEachState.com lists 5,952 open U.S. hospitals in our directory: one page per open hospital, and one per Medicare provider number (CCN) where the hospital has one. 5,186 of them filed a Medicare cost report with a bed count, and those are the hospitals ranked here. Other sources count campuses and federal or specialty facilities differently, so their totals differ.
Why do hospital bed counts differ between sources?
Hospitals report beds in more than one way: licensed beds (what the state allows), staffed beds, and the beds on the cost report they file with Medicare. This page uses only the cost-report figure, for every hospital, so the ranking compares like with like. A hospital's own website may give a different number.
