Questions
Does every ER treat children?
Yes. Federal law (EMTALA) requires every hospital emergency room to screen and stabilize anyone who comes in, including children. In an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest ER; you don't need to find a children's hospital first.
Why is the nearest children's hospital far away?
There are few freestanding children's hospitals. Many general hospitals run pediatric units, and Medicare lists those under the parent hospital, so they don't appear here as separate children's hospitals.
