Alaska ranks #14 of 50 states on the CMS patient survey. Its 12 rated hospitals average 3.67 patient stars, against a U.S. average of 3.27. 67% are rated 4 or 5 stars and 8% are rated 1 or 2 stars. 74% of surveyed patients said they would definitely recommend their hospital, compared with 71% nationally.
Providence Alaska Medical Ctr in Anchorage has the highest share of patients who would definitely recommend it: 79% (based on 393 completed surveys). Next are Central Peninsula General Hospital (77%) and Alaska Regional Hospital (69%).
Only hospitals with a CMS patient star rating are listed. CMS gives one only to hospitals with at least 100 completed surveys over the reporting period, so many small rural, critical access and specialty hospitals have none, and some hospitals are not required to take part in the survey. A missing patient rating is not a bad rating. Every hospital still has its own page in the Alaska hospital directory.

CMS gives a patient star rating only to hospitals with at least 100 completed surveys, and adjusts results for patient mix and survey mode. Each facility is counted once by its CMS Certification Number. Updated automatically when CMS publishes new data.
