The median pay for surgeons, all other in the U.S. was $414,010 a year ($199.04 an hour) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The middle half earned between $134,850 and $511,420.
The highest pay was in North Dakota ($604,890), Minnesota ($568,150), Ohio ($554,220), Oklahoma ($553,790), New Hampshire ($534,870). The lowest was in California ($131,990), Connecticut ($161,680), Kentucky ($162,160).
About 25,140 people were employed as surgeons, all other in May 2025.
