The median pay for orthodontists in the U.S. was $289,140 a year ($139.01 an hour) in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The middle half earned between $146,580 and $342,300.
The highest pay was in Connecticut ($478,680), Colorado ($416,000), Maryland ($361,030), Michigan ($357,090), Illinois ($343,100). The lowest was in Georgia ($159,230), New York ($172,980), Wisconsin ($212,860).
