We list 2,544 birthing-friendly hospitals across 50 states, using CMS data published July 2026.
The birthing-friendly designation marks hospitals that have attested to taking part in a maternity care quality improvement programme and to implementing recommended patient safety practices. It reflects participation in those programmes rather than a measured birth outcome, so treat it as one signal among several when choosing where to give birth.
